Nurse with Patient on Treadmail

Anticoagulation Clinic: The Anticoagulation Clinic is a service provided to assist Physicians in managing patient's that are taking the medication Coumadin. The clinic is open Monday through Friday with appointments. For more information please call the Cardiac and Pulmonary Services Department at 402-372-6722.

Cardiology Clinic: Cardiology Clinic is held weekly on Wednesdays. The consulting cardiologists are the Creighton Cardiac Center's Cardiologists, Dr. Mark Woodruff, Dr. Karen Rovang and Dr. Dennis Esterbrooks. A referral from your physician is required. A variety of testing is offered on cardiology clinic day including stress testing, stress echocardiograms, dobutamine stress echocardiograms and echocardiograms.

Pulmonary Clinic: Pulmonary Clinic is held usually twice a month on Tuesdays. Dr. Daniel Iltchev is the consulting Pulmonologist from Norfolk. A referral from your physician is required.

Electrocardiograms: Electrocardiograms are offered 24 hours a day with a physician order. The Creighton Cardiologists over-read the electrocardiograms.

Holter Monitors: Holter monitors are available with a physician order. A holter monitor is worn for 24 hours, recording the heart beat continually. The reports are transmitted to the Creighton Cardiac Center to be read.

Event Monitors: Event monitors are available with a physician order. An event monitor is worn for about a month to help evaluate heart problems that happen infrequently. The recorded events are transmitted over the phone for evaluation at the Creighton Arrhythmia lab and are interpreted by the Cardiologists.

24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitors: Twenty-four hour blood pressure monitors are available with a physician order. This blood pressure monitor is worn for 24 hours to document readings intermittently during that time. The monitor records a reading every ½ hour during the day and every hour at night. The readings are printed out into a report and sent to the physician on the day the monitor is returned. This helps to diagnose "White Coat Hypertension ". White Coat Hypertension is when a patient's blood pressure elevates when they see their physician in the clinic but when checked outside the clinic it is within normal limits. The information obtained assists the physician in prescribing medications if needed for high blood pressure.

Stress Testing: Stress testing is available with a physician order. Dr. Green, Dr. Hass, Dr. Cohee, Dr. Eckmann and the Creighton Cardiologists all monitor their own stress tests. A stress test is done with the patient walking on the treadmill while being on a heart and blood pressure monitor. The results are usually given to the patient after completing the test.

Stress Echocardiograms: Stress echocardiograms are done on Wednesdays. The technician completes an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) and then a stress test is done by the patient walking on the treadmill. After the patient completes the actual stress test on the treadmill, an echocardiogram is then repeated. The Cardiologist reviews the results with the patient at completion of the test. A physician order is required for this test.

Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms: Dobutamine stress echocardiograms are done on Wednesdays with a physician order. The technician completes an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) and then a stress test is done by infusing dobutamine into an intravenous line. This test is offered to patients that aren't able to physically walk on a treadmill. The medication dobutamine increases the heart rate to mimic the patient increasing his exercise workload by simulating walking on a treadmill. The Cardiologist reviews the results with the patient at completion of the test.

Sleep Studies: Sleep studies are offered through St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Sleep studies require a physician order. Once an order is obtained the order is faxed to our contracted provider and they contact the client to set up the date that the test will be done. The patient is usually asked to report to St. Francis Memorial Hospital at about 9 PM. The test is usually completed by 6 AM and they will be ready to go home. The test is sent in to be interpreted by a physician who specializes in reading sleep studies. The report usually takes about 10 to 14 days to return. The results need to be obtained from the ordering physician.
