Healthy Living with Diabetes Group Classes (2 part)

Franciscan Care Services (St. Francis Memorial Hospital) offers group classes in diabetes management. The classes are held 3 times yearly. The classes are held in cooperation with the Cuming County Extension Service. The classes are part of the Diabetes Education Program at Franciscan Care Services that has received a Certificate of Recognition from the American Diabetes Association. The Diabetes Education Program has met the national standards for diabetes self-management education. Because the program has received a Certificate of Recognition, Medicare and private insurance may cover part of the cost of attending the classes. Scholarships to cover fees are available through the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Information sessions on topics of diabetes care are also offered via satellite in cooperation with the Cuming County Extension. These sessions are scheduled for March, June and November. For more information, please contact Cuming County Extension at 402-372-6006.

Free Childbirth Education Classes

Evening Classes from 7pm to 9pm
Afternoon Classes from 1pm to 5pm

Prepared Childbirth

January 9th, March 13th, May 8th, July 10th, September 11th, November 13th

This session will help you prepare for your labor and delivery in a more knowledgeable and relaxed manner. This Saturday afternoon session will include:

  • Signs of Labor
  • Stages of Labor
  • Birthing Room/Nursery Tour
  • Cesarean Birth
  • Breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Comfort measures to use in labor
  • Medications, Epidurals

* Please bring pillows and wear comfortable clothing to class.

Refresher Class

The Refresher Class is designed for expectant parents who have previously taken the Prepared Childbirth Class. Offered by request only -- please call to schedule. This class reviews:

  • Labor & Delivery
  • Relaxation & Breathing Techniques

Cesarean Birth

Scheduled C-Birth deliveries are asked to attend admission/teaching sessions prior to your procedure. An OB nurse will call you to set up at your convenience.

Infant Care

This one night class helps prepare you to care for your newborn baby. This is especially helpful for first-time parents, but is a good review for all parents. We suggest taking the class before your baby is born. This class includes:

  • Feeding your baby
  • Bathing
  • Jaundice
  • Circumcision
  • Cord Care
  • Car Seat Safety
  • Immunizations

Breastfeeding:

January 18th, March 29th, May 17th, July 19th, September 27th, November 22nd

This class will offer you the knowledge and support to breast feed your baby:

  • The "how to"
  • Latch on
  • Breastmilk production
  • Engorgement
  • Breastfeeding and work
  • Breast pumps
